My Journey in Art

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” – Henry David Thoreau.

Hello.  My name is Sharon and I am a mixed-media artist.  My works are a combination of mediums, like paint and paper, wax and embellishments.  I came into this art form through the world of scrapbooking and that has influenced my style.

The French word, echafadeur, means to build up, layer on layer.  This is mixed-media in its expression.

My favorite medium to work in is encaustic wax.  My favorite paint brush is an embossing gun.

Often a late bloomer, I realized I was an artist long past high-school and college.  For a long time art was just a hobby without any real direction.  One aspect of it that caused me to take it seriously was discovering it was one of my spiritual gifts.  In the Christian faith is the teaching that every believer has at least one spiritual gift when he is born again.  Sometimes those giftings come along in different times of our lives.  For me that gift is Craftsmanship.  You can read more about it in the book of Exodus in the story of Bezalel.

I like to record my dreams.  It’s another way I try to discern the direction of my life.  One night I had a dream in which I was told “You are a Creative.”  This was one of a few ways it was confirmed to me I had finally found my calling.

Besides spending my days making art, I also like to experiment with poetry, keep a scrapbook, and make endless cups of hot tea!!  Welcome to my world!
